As well as providing a thorough review of capitalization, punctuation, and the parts of speech, ABEKA’s God’s Gift of Language B deepens students’ knowledge of grammar and increases their practical skills. Students are introduced to the four main types of complements: direct objects, indirect objects, predicate nouns, and predicate adjectives. They also add prepositional phrases and complements to their diagramming skills. Writing skills will soar as students learn to write effective topic sentences and paragraphs and to use transitional words. Skills learned in outlining, note-taking, and preparing a bibliography will aid students in writing an encyclopedia report and the library research report. Writing is enhanced by integrating the Shurley Language curriculum writing portion into the ABEKA curriculum. A literature based unit of study of the first five books of The Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis forms the core of the teaching of reading. With the subject matter promoting motivation, there is an emphasis on vocabulary, oral reading, literal comprehension and critical thinking skills. Creative opportunities are offered through projects and reports. Additional comprehension practice is provided with Read and Think Skill Sheets.6th
